Doritos and Microsoft may not seem like a peanut-butter-and-chocolate combination, but when they announced a team-up to bring user-created games to Xbox Live Arcade, we were hopeful. Perhaps a multi-billion dollar computer mega-corporation teaming with a multi-billion dollar food mega-corporation could lead to mega-creativity?

At the start of the week Microsoft announced that the five finalists in the contest are now in beta form and available to play for free on the Unlock Xbox website. We decided to try each of the games out for the sake of your entertainment and our nourishment.

Whether the PlayStation 3 in Japan is best epitomized by the little engine that could or the poky little puppy is a debate which can convincingly be argued either way right now. What’s not up for debate is the latest crop of sales numbers coming out of Japanese market research firm Enterbrain. Midway can’t win for losing, it seems. Although there was good news amongst today’s Q3 financial results, most of the positives were buried under announcements of sales deficits and hardware-driven release pushbacks.

Compared to this same time last year, the publisher is selling more games — which is good. Overall sales numbers for the three months prior to September 30 are up about $6 million from where they stood in 2006 — $27.4 to $36.7 million.

Now, with a full reboot, Touchstone is also looking to bring dinosaur hunting onto home computers everywhere. Turok, the epic, sci-fi first person shooter, will be released in Spring 2008 for Windows PC, Touchstone confirms. Touchstone previously announced that Turok will be available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. Developed by Propaganda Games, Turok for consoles will be available at retail stores on February 5, 2008.
